Cape Cod Gateway Airport
Replacement of Runway 6 EMAS

The Cape Cod Gateway Airport (HYA) is a public use commercial and general aviation airport located on Cape Cod. The airport acts as a hub for flights to Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. The airport has regularly scheduled operations by Cape Air and seasonal operations by JetBlue Airways and American Airlines.

The Runway 6 Engineered Materials Arresting System(EMAS) was first constructed in 2004 following an incident where a Falcon 900 slid off the end of the runway, across Route 28, finally coming to a stop in shopping plaza with no injuries. The EMAS has reached the end of its life and was starting to break down.

The project scope of work included the following elements:

• Removal of original Runway 6 EMAS
• Installation of new Runway 6 EMAS
• Placement of Edge Markers
• Installation of EMAS markings

ASG was responsible for completing the design and construction/project management for this $6.3M construction project.
